Lourdes (LuLu) Roman was born in Peru. She has been living in the United States for the past 24 years. Her mother, two brothers and sister are also living in the United States. LuLu met her husband at Dunkin Donuts in Branford, CT where he was a supervisor. They dated for a year and then they got married. LuLu has been married for 22 years. She has two daughters (21 and 19 years old). Her two daughters currently attend college. Her husband is a manager of 5 Dunkin Donuts stores in the Wallingford area.
Prior to living in the United States, she was a midwife in Peru. She worked as a midwife for three years in a hospital. She helped deliver about 7 babies each day! LuLu helped to make the mothers very comfortable because there wasn’t any anesthesia. They very were fortunate to have LuLu as their midwife.
When LuLu is not working she loves spending time with her family. She would not be able to live without her children. She is always there for them when they are in need of something. Every Tuesday, LuLu and her husband go to the movies together for a “date night”. They both look forward to spending time together each week. How sweet!
LuLu’s hobbies include cooking, baking and swimming. Plus, she is good at all three of them! Her family also loves to travel. LuLu and her family like to vacation to Ecuador where her husband is from. They visit a city named Cuenca. They own a house there and her in-laws live in it. LuLu said that Ecuador is nice and clean. She enjoys going there to visit.
LuLu has been working at The Hearth at Gardenside since 2001 as a CNA. A former employee told LuLu about Gardenside. LuLu applied and the rest is history! She loves helping people and that is what it is all about. She knows to be punctual with the residents so their routine doesn’t get broken. She has a lot of patience, understanding and compassion for the residents. She has learned that life changes as you get older. She is always willing to help in any way that she can.
LuLu ended her interview by saying “I really love my job at Gardenside!”
We want to thank LuLu for sharing with us about herself and her life! We also want to thank Linda Capaubo, Activity Director, at The Hearth at Gardenside, for helping us put together this great spotlight piece!
